Meat consumption and risk of incident dementia: cohort study of 493,888 UK Biobank participants

Generous consumption of processed meats may heighten the risk of dementia in men and women.

​This study examined meat intake in relation to the subsequent development of dementia. Researchers compared the meat consumption levels of 4,392 patients with dementia and 489,496 British men and women without the disease over an 8-year period.

Researchers found out that dementia occurred at a higher rate among participants who ate the most amounts of processed meats than in those who refrained from consuming these animal foods. Data from this study indicate that Individuals on high processed meat diet may be at risk of developing dementia.
