Avid consumption of processed meats may increase a middle-aged woman's susceptibility to chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD).
This study evaluated the correlation between the consumption of processed meats and the incidence of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) in middle-aged women. Researchers surveyed more than 85,000 women recruited from the Nurses' Health Study for a duration of 26 years. During the course of the study, 634 cases of COPD were recorded.
Researchers found out that the tendency of COPD to occur among frequent consumers of processed meats was high. Data from this study indicate eating processed meats regularly may make COPD more likely to occur in middle-aged women.
