Fondness for legumes may help ward off cardiovascular disease.
This study explored the impact of high legume diet on the prevalence of cardiovascular disease in a study population comprising of 5.398 middle-aged and elderly men and women from Iran. All the participants were followed for an average period of 6.8 years.
Researchers found a 34% decline in cardiovascular disease incidence among participants who ate the most amounts of legumes. This study adds to the evidence showing that diet rich in legumes may play a role in the prevention of cardiovascular ailments.
