Higher dietary intake of fruits and vegetables may contribute positively to the prevention of depression in elderly men and women.
This study was carried out to confirm the protective effect of fruits and vegetables against depression. The study population included 1,226 elderly Korean men and women who provided dietary information and underwent regular mental health examination.
A trend towards lower risk of depression was observed among participants who ate generous portions of fruits and vegetables every week. This 2021 study of Korean men and women documented a protective association between habitual fruit and vegetable consumption and depression.
