High dietary ingestion of citrus fruits may help ward off dementia.
This study examined citrus fruit consumption in relation to the incidence of dementia. A total of 13,373 Japanese men and women took part in this study. The dietary habits and occurrence of dementia among the study participants were monitored for 5.7 years.
Researchers found out that daily intake of citrus fruits decreased the risk of dementia by as much as 23%. "The present findings suggest that frequent citrus consumption was associated with a lower risk of incident dementia, even after adjustment for possible confounding factors," the study concluded.
