This meta-analysis evaluated the connection between the consumption of a high fruit and vegetable diet and the onset and progression of periodontal disease. Researchers sifted through data obtained from 15 studies that examined more than 10,000 participants.
Data analysis revealed that consistent ingestion of 5 servings of fruits and vegetables per day halted the progression of periodontal diseases and prevented tooth loss. The data from this study suggest that generous intake of fruits and vegetables may help curb the advancement of periodontal diseases and the occurrence of tooth loss.
