Avid consumption of fruits and vegetables may help to lower the amount of low density lipoprotein (LDL) and total cholesterol circulating in the blood and improve cardiovascular disease risk profile.
This study evaluated the effect of high dietary ingestion of fruits and vegetables on cardiovascular disease risk profile. Researchers evaluated the diets and measured the concentration of cholesterol in the bloodstream of 840 Iranian men and women aged 18-74 years.
Researchers found low blood levels of total and low-density lipoprotein (LDL) cholesterol among high consumers of fruits and vegetables. The findings of this study indicate that frequent intake of fruits and vegetables may have a favorable effect on cardiovascular disease risk profile.
