Fruit and Vegetables and Cancer Risk: A Review of Southern European Studies

Following a high fruit and vegetable diet may help lower cancer risk.

This study conducted a comprehensive analysis on data from studies that documented the results of the association between the intake of fruits and vegetables and the incidence of cancer in Southern Europe. Researchers reviewed data drawn out from a pool of Italian and Swiss studies that examined more than 10,0000 cancer patients.

Researchers discovered that consistent consumption of fruits and vegetables decreased the risk of several types of cancer, including prostate, oral, pharyngeal, laryngeal, and digestive tract cancers. This meta-analysis suggests that high fruit and vegetable diet may have an important protective effect against cancer.
