A decreased in the risk of dementia is associated increased intake of fruits and vegetable during midlife.
This study seeks to investigate whether consistent ingestion of fruits and vegetables in midlife can influence the risk of suffering from dementia in older adults. Researchers assessed the dietary patterns of 3779 middle-aged Swedish twins who underwent regular medical examination for dementia for a period of 30 years.
Researchers discovered that compliance with fruit and vegetable diets during midlife decreased the frequency of occurrence of all types of dementia, including Alzheimer's dementia, in later life. This study supports the role of high fruit and vegetable diet as a protective factor against dementia.
