Preference for ultra-processed foods may fuel the development of peptic ulcer disease (PUD) in men and women.
This study dissected the puzzle linking ultra-processed food (UPF) intake with elevated risk of peptic ulcer disease (PUD) in men and women. Researchers took a detailed look at the eating habits and peptic ulcer disease diagnosis status of 18,066 Spanish men and women over a 12-year period.
Researchers noted that participants at the top of the ultra-processed food ingestion ladder had high tendency of suffering from peptic ulcer disease. This study concluded that "the consumption of UPF is associated with an increased PUD risk."
