Fondness for fast foods may promote the occurrence of obesity and hypertension in children and adolescents.
This study examined the link between the frequency of consumption of fast foods and the prevalence of hypertension and obesity in children and adolescents. With the aid of validated food frequency questionnaires, researchers assessed the dietary data of 1,626 Chinese students within the age bracket of 7-16 years. The height, weight, waist circumference, and blood pressure of all the participants were measured regularly.
Researchers found out that fast food lovers had a high tendency to become obese and hypertensive compared to their counterparts who avoided from these foods. The data from this study showed that fast foods may be a major contributor to the rising incidence of obesity and hypertension in children and adolescents.
