Upping ultra-processed food intake may lead to a significant reduction in hand grip strength in middle-aged and elderly men and women.
This study clarified the association between the frequency of ingestion of ultra-processed foods and grip strength in middle-aged and older men and women. Using dietary questionnaires, researchers collated and analyzed data on the eating habits of 5,409 Chinese adults aged 40 years and above. The hand grip strength of all the participants in this study was also measured at regular intervals during this study.
Researchers found reduced hand grip strength among lovers of ultra-processed foods in this study. Based on the data from this study, ultra-processed food consumption may hasten grip strength decline in middle-aged and older adults.
