Depression is less likely to occur in elderly individuals on high tomato diets.
This study evaluated the link between eating tomatoes and keeping depression away from elderly persons. Researchers from China reviewed data on the tomato intake levels and prevalence of depression among 986 Japanese men and women aged 70 years and above.
The team of scientists observed that subjects with highest intake of tomatoes had the lowest predisposition to depression. The findings of this study reveal that including more tomatoes in a diet may help to fend off depression in elderly individuals.
