Prospective study of fruit and vegetable intake and risk of prostate cancer.

High dietary ingestion of cruciferous vegetables may help to confer men with significant protection against prostate cancer.

This research work was carried out to determine whether increased intake of fruits and vegetables can decrease the likelihood of developing prostate cancer. Researchers analyzed the relative risk of prostate cancer and diets of 29,361 men.

Researchers noted that frequent consumption of cruciferous vegetables, particularly, broccoli, and cauliflower, diminished the risk of acquiring aggressive prostate cancer, especially the extra-prostatic form of the disease. Data from this study suggest that men who want to minimize their risk of prostate cancer should consume generous portions of cruciferous vegetables regularly.
