Avid consumption of raw garlic may help fend off non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD).
This research work studied the association between habitual intake of raw garlic and the prevalence of new-onset non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) in China. Researchers monitored 24,106 Chinese men and women who completed dietary questionnaires and did liver ultrasound to confirm NAFLD diagnosis.
Researchers discovered that frequent ingestion of raw garlic drove down the risk of NAFLD in men, but not in women. This 2019 study of Chinese men and women documented an inverse relationship between raw garlic ingestion and NAFLD incidence in men.
