The team of investigators found out that individuals on vegetarian diets had 50% lower chances of developing type 2 diabetes than non-vegetarians. In addition, low-fat, vegan diets were also found to enhance glycemic control, improve plasma lipid profile, and reverse atherosclerosis progression in this study. The findings of this study show that diets rich in plant-based foods and low in fat may contribute positively to the prevention and management of type 2 diabetes.
