Vegetarian diets and blood pressure: a meta-analysis.

High blood pressure is less likely to develop in individuals adhering to a vegetarian dietary pattern.

This study examined the effect of the consumption of vegetarian diets on blood pressure. Researchers systematically analyzed nutritional and clinical data extracted from 32 observational studies and 7 clinical trials. The team of investigators found out that subjects on vegetarian diets had lower diastolic and systolic blood pressure than individuals who consumed omnivorous diets. The findings of this study indicate that increased consumption of vegetarian diets may reduce the incidence of high blood pressure in the general population.
