Frequent eating of foods high in phytosterols may protect individuals against cancer.
The objective of this study was to determine the association between dietary intake of phytosterols and the risk of cancer by conducting a meta-analysis of eligible studies. Data drawn out from 11 studies were collated for this meta-analysis.
Researchers discovered regular ingestion of foods rich in phytosterols conferred individuals with lower risk of cancer. "Our findings support the hypothesis that high phytosterol intake is inversely related to risk of cancer," the authors concluded.
