Hi everyone, recently started weight training a week ago. I do three days of heavy weightlifting and 2 days of cardio. The program I'm doing is Chelean Extreme from Beachbody. It focuses on building muscle to speed your metabolism. It focuses heavily on muscle fatigue. I'm seeing results, especially in my arms. The diet program for Chelean Extreme ( and most Beachbody programs) focus around calorie counting, restriction, and focusing on protein, mostly animal protein. I'm not sure if I'm getting enough protein. Is there any books on vegan weightlifting?

There is also a really great story about Robert Cheeke on Forks Over Knives entitled "An Athlete’s Journey from Vegan Protein Addict to Plant-Based Whole Foods" located at this url: https://www.forksoverknives.com/vegan-athlete-protein-addict-to-plant-based-whole-foods/

Hello Christine,

Thanks for asking another question here. There is a book titled "Shred It" that you will probably find quite interesting and on Amazon you will find quite a few other similar books. The vegans are winning in body building big time. Here is a link to that book on Amazon: https://www.amazon.com/Shred-Step-Step-Whole-Food-Plant-Based/dp/0984391614

There is also a web site for Vegan Body Building at: http://veganbodybuilding.com/

And, there are a couple of Facebook groups. Here is one of them: https://www.facebook.com/VeganBodybuildingAndFitness/

My guess is that you are eating more than enough protein if you are on a whole foods plant based no oil diet and eating enough calories to sustain your life. And, if you are not following that lifestyle the chances are very good that you may be eating too much protein as opposed to too little.

Check out those resources and check back in here and let us know what you think. :-)
