What are the advantages for children eating a Starch-Smart® diet?
Adopting a Starch‐Smart diet for our family can be one of the best decisions that we can make for our childrens' health and wellbeing. Taking time to educate ourselves, plan, and provide nutritious foods can provide long-term future health benefits for our children, as well as possibly increasing their IQ's. Fruits, vegetables, grains, beans, legumes and nuts provide optimal nutrition for children. These foods are rich in complex carbohydrates, vitamins, minerals, and micronutrients that form the foundation for dietary habits that support optimal health. Plant-based diets have been shown to promote longevity, and reduce the risk of hypertension, obesity, heart disease, and all forms of cancer especially breast, colon, and prostate cancer. Diabetes, autoimmune disease, and childhood illnesses including ear infections, allergies, ADHD, strep throat, and asthma can also be reduced. As parents, we desire the best for our children. Modeling healthy eating habits while they are young equips them to make wise dietary choices as an adult, and possibly avoid adult disabilities and premature death. It's exciting to know that we can play such an important role in influencing their future health outcome.
