Michael Klaper MD Speaks From His Heart
Physicans like myself who follow the wise words of Hippocrates: "Let food be thy medicine and medicine be thy food" — witness amazing transformations in the lives of our patients when disease-promoting foods are removed from their diets and their bodies are instead nourished with the finest ingredients. When animal products, refined oils/sugars and processed foods are replaced with whole, natural plant foods, patients drop the excess weight, are able to discontinue many of their medications, find that their blood pressure returns to normal, and see their dietary-induced illnesses resolved. Michael Klaper, MD, is another such physician who takes great pleasure in seeing his patients experience extraordinary health.
Recently, I came across three of Dr. Klaper's two-minute video clips that I thought you would enjoy seeing. Although my plant-based diet colleagues and I focus on preventing and reversing disease, we remember that food choices significantly impact other important aspects of life besides disease. Around the globe, people are beginning to realize how choosing to eat a plant-centered diet reflects a desire to live a more compassionate and honorable life, how it alleviates unnecessary suffering, and how it conserves precious natural resources. I appreciate Dr. Klaper's willingness to share his passion and how he wants to be part of the dramatic change that makes the world a more peaceful place.
Your Most Important Action for Your Health and Our Planet
Dr. Klaper reminds us that climate change is directly linked to the food choices we make on a daily basis. We shouldn't underestimate the power that eating a whole-food, plant-based diet has on our environment. He says that the desire for, and the large-scale production of animal products is the single most destructive force on the planet. It is responsible for environmental devestation such as water pollution and depletion, deforestation, soil errosion, and green house gasses.
The Importance of Compassion
Growing up on a dairy farm, Dr. Klaper says, introduced to him the stark reality of the violence behind every animal-based product on the grocery store shelf or on the entrée section of the restaurant menu. By encouraging his patients to eat a more compassionate diet, Dr. Klaper reminds us that every meal prepared without animal products spares the life of a beautiful and sentient animal that has the desire to live. He says it gives a new meaning to the word "integrity."
Awakening to a Plant-based Non-Violent Lifestyle
Dr. Klaper shares briefly how a friend encouraged him to live a non-violent lifestyle and explained how his food choices paid for the death and violence of what was on his plate. Every purchase in a super market, he says, reflects our values. His wish is to help others make the connection, not only for their own health, but for the health of the planet for future generations to come.
