Using Antidepressants and the Risk of Stroke Recurrence: Report From a National Representative Cohort Study
The chances of experiencing subsequent stroke attacks may be high among stroke patients taking antidepressant medications
This study examined if there is an association between the use of antidepressants and the tendency to suffer from recurrent stroke attacks. A total of 16,770 stroke patients from Taiwan participated in this study and their drug prescription records were reviewed over a 10-year period.
The team of investigators found a large number of cases of stroke re-occurrence among users of antidepressant medications. The evidence from this study indicate that stroke patients on antidepressant therapy may be highly vulnerable to further stroke attacks.
