Use of statins and the incidence of type 2 diabetes mellitus.

Statin users are at increased risk of developing type 2 diabetes.

This study was carried out to determine the role statins play in the development of type 2 diabetes in statin-treated patients. Researchers systematically reviewed data and evidence extracted from relevant published studies on the subject. They found statins contributed positively to the development of type 2 diabetes. The findings of this study reveal that increased diabetes mellitus risk is associated with statin usage.
