Mushroom intake and risk of incident disabling dementia: the Circulatory Risk in Communities Study (CIRCS)

Upping the level of consumption of mushrooms may help protect women from suffering from dementia.

This study evaluated the hypothesis that high dietary ingestion of mushrooms may be beneficial for dementia prevention. Researchers followed 3,739 Japanese men and women for 16 years, monitoring their eating habits and the incidence rates of dementia in the study population.

Researchers noted that the higher the quantity of mushrooms consumed by women, the better protected they are against dementia. This study further affirmed the hypothesis that adequate intake of mushrooms may help guard against the occurrence of dementia in women.
