Genetically determined alcohol consumption and cancer risk in Korea
Avid consumption of alcohol may bump up an individual's risk of developing cancer of the liver and rectum.
This study assessed alcohol use in relation to the subsequent development of cancer. Data on the alcohol drinking habits and the prevalence of cancer among 129,324 Korean men and women were obtained through validated lifestyle questionnaires and the Korean National Cancer Center database respectively.
Researchers found out that alcohol consumers faced increased risk of developing liver and rectal cancer. This study suggested that regular intake of alcohol may induce the formation of cancerous cells and tumors in the liver and rectum.
