Association between the Dietary Inflammatory Index and Gastric Disease Risk: Findings from a Korean Population-Based Cohort Study
Embracing a pro-inflammatory diet may favor the development of different diseases of the stomach, including gastritis, duodenal, and gastric ulcer.
This study determined the link between the inflammatory properties of a diet and the incidence of gastric (stomach) diseases. Researchers followed 144,196 Korean men and women for 7 years, monitoring their diets and health.
Researchers observed that eating a pro-inflammatory diet increased a participant's risk of coming down with different diseases of the stomach, including gastritis, gastric, and duodenal ulcer. On the other hand, anti-inflammatory diets were found to confer individuals with significant protection against gastric diseases. This study pointed out that optimal intake of foods loaded with antioxidants may help individuals fight off diseases that affect the stomach.
