Associations between Dietary Inflammatory Index Scores and Inflammatory Biomarkers among Older Adults in the Lothian Birth Cohort 1936 Study
A pro-inflammatory diet may raise blood levels of biomarkers of inflammation in elderly population.
This study assessed the effect of routine consumption of ample amounts of pro-inflammatory foods on plasma levels of biomarkers of inflammation, such as C-reactive proteins (CRP), fibrinogen, and interlukin-6, in older adults. Researchers studied 928 elderly men and women with regards to their dietary choices and the concentrations of C-reactive proteins (CRP), fibrinogen, and interlukin-6 floating in their blood.
Researchers noticed high blood levels of C-reactive proteins (CRP), fibrinogen, and interlukin-6 among generous consumers of pro-inflammatory foods. The data from this study revealed that a pro-inflammatory diet may have a detrimental effect on biomarkers of inflammation.
