Seizure Risk Associated With Antidepressant Treatment Among Patients With Depressive Disorders: A Population-Based Case-Crossover Study
Regular intake of antidepressants may precipitate the onset of seizure in a patient with depression.
This study explored the relationship between the use of antidepressant drugs to treat depression and the propensity to develop new-onset seizure. Researchers surveyed 10,002 patients with depression taking different classes of antidepressant medications from 2002 to 2012.
Researchers observed that the likelihood of suffering from new-onset seizure went up among users of antidepressant medications. Evidence from this study reinforce the notion that antidepressants may lower the threshold for seizure to occur in an individual.
