Ultra-processed food consumption and renal cell carcinoma incidence and mortality: results from a large prospective cohort

High dietary ingestion of ultra-processed may be one of major factors contributing to the rising number of cases and deaths attributed to renal (kidney) cancer.

This study assessed the renal (kidney) cancer development and mortality risk associated with the consumption of ultra-processed foods. Researchers matched eating habits with kidney cancer diagnosis status in a study group comprising of more than 100,000 men and women.

Researchers discovered that participants at the top of the ultra-processed food consumption ladder had high likelihood to not only develop but also die from renal cancer. This study demonstrated that likeness for ultra-processed foods may bump up an individual's odds of suffering and dying from kidney cancer.
