The Association of Alcohol Use Disorder and Chronic Plaque Psoriasis: Results of a Pilot Study

Heavy consumers of alcohol may be liable to develop chronic plaque psoriasis.

This study examined whether alcohol abuse is tied to the development of psoriasis. The study population included 146 persons who completed questionnaires seeking for information about their frequency of use of alcohol and the presence/absence of psoriasis.

Researchers found a high number of cases of chronic plaque psoriasis among alcohol abusers compared to abstainers. This study pointed out that excessive use of alcohol may be a contributing factor to the development of chronic plaque psoriasis.
