Fruits and vegetables consumption and the risk of gallstone diasease: A systematic review and meta-analysis.
Avid consumption of fruits and vegetables is tied to lower risk of developing gallstone disease.
This study examined whether indulgence in fruits and vegetables can help halt the development of gallstone disease using a meta-analytic approach. Researchers used data obtained from 1,53,3752 healthy individuals and 33,983 patients with gallstone disease who participated in 9 studies.
Researchers found out that participants belonging to the top of the fruit and vegetable consumption ladder exhibited the lowest risk of acquiring gallstone disease compared to their counterparts who ate the least amounts of these plant foods. The data from this study indicate that adopting the dietary habit of eating generous portions of fruits and vegetables regularly may confer individuals with significant protection against gallstone disease.
