Dietary inflammatory potential is associated with poor periodontal health: A population-based study
A pro-inflammatory diet may promote the development of periodontitis in men and women.
This study investigated the effect of eating pro-inflammatory foods on periodontal health. Researchers utilized dietary information obtained from 12,179 US men and women whose periodontal health was followed over a 3-year period.
Researchers noticed that periodontitis affected more individuals who consistently ate pro-inflammatory foods than their counterparts who avoided these foods. This study identified high inflammation diet as a risk factor for periodontitis.
