Alcohol consumption is associated with periodontitis. A systematic review and meta-analysis of observational studies
Alcohol intake may heighten the risk of peridontitis in men and women.
The purpose of this study was to analyze the impact of alcohol consumption on the likelihood of acquiring peridontitis. Researchers utilized data obtained from a pool of 29 studies.
Researchers discovered that the odds of developing peridontitis went up by 26% among consumers compared to non consumers of alcoholic beverages. Based on the data from this study, the authors concluded that "alcohol consumption was associated with increased occurrence of periodontitis and should be considered as a parameter in periodontal risk assessment."
