Association Between Alcohol Intake and Development of Hypertension in Japanese Normotensive Men: 12-year Follow-Up Study
Heavy consumption of alcohol can trigger the development of hypertension in men.
This research work investigated the hypertension-promoting effect of alcohol in men. Researchers monitored the frequency of alcohol consumption and the incidence of hypertension among 325 Japanese men with normal blood pressures. After 12 years of follow up, 93 out of the 325 men had hypertension.
Researchers discovered that heavy drinking of alcohol increased the likelihood of being diagnosed with hypertension. The findings of this study present quantitative data that high level of consumption of alcohol may play a significant role in increasing a man's susceptibility to hypertension.
