Dietary intake of antioxidant vitamins and risk of Parkinson's disease: a case-control study in Japan.
Diets rich in fruits and vegetables high in β-carotene and vitamin E may hinder the development of Parkinson's disease.
This study was carried out to determine the role high intake of foods rich in antioxidant vitamins play in the prevention of Parkinson's disease. Researchers analyzed data from 249 Parkinson's disease patients and 368 healthy persons residing in Japan who responded to questionnaires on their dietary choices.
The team of investigators observed that the risk of Parkinson's disease decreased with increase in the consumption of vitamin E and β-carotene from fruits and vegetables. The data from this study indicate that diets high in fruits and vegetables loaded with vitamin E and β-carotene may contribute positively in the prevention of Parkinson's disease.Research Summary Information
