Dietary fiber intake and risks of proximal and distal colon cancers: A meta-analysis.

Habitual consumption of foods packed with fiber may thwart the development of colon cancer.

This meta-analysis was undertaken to study the relationship between regular ingestion of fiber-rich foods and the propensity to develop colon cancer. Research analyzed data obtained from 11 studies.

Data analysis revealed a 14% decrease in the likelihood of cancer occurrence in the proximal and distal colon of high consumers of fiber-containing foods. This study provides further evidence supporting the beneficial role high-fiber foods play in the prevention of colon cancer.
