Associations of Coarse Grain Intake with Undiagnosed Hypertension among Chinese Adults: Results from the China Kadoorie Biobank
Healthy blood pressure numbers and reduced risk of hypertension may be associated with regular intake of coarse grains.
This study determined the role frequent ingestion coarse grains, such as millet, oats, sorghum, corn, and buckwheat, play in the prevention of high blood pressure. Researchers charted the rate of consumption of coarse grains against the blood pressure values of 435,907 Chinese men and women.
Researchers discovered that high consumers of coarse grains had blood pressures within a healthy range and diminished risk of hypertension compared to their counterparts who rarely ate these plant foods. This 2020 study documented that high blood pressure is less likely to occur among devout consumers of coarse grains.
