Fruit and vegetable consumption and the risk of postmenopausal osteoporosis: a meta-analysis of observational studies.

Greater intake of fruits and vegetables can help to prevent the onset of osteoporosis in postmenopausal women.

The purpose of this study was to conduct a meta-analysis on observational studies investigating the relationship between high dietary ingestion of fruits and vegetables and the odds of having osteoporosis in postmenopausal women. A total of 18 observational studies that examined 12,643 women were considered eligible for this meta-analysis.

Researchers discovered that the greater the frequency of consumption of fruits and vegetables in postmenopausal women, the higher the chances of avoiding osteoporosis. The findings of this study reveal that increased intake of fruits and vegetables may play a beneficial role in strengthening the bones of postmenopausal women.
