J-Shaped Association of Tomato Intake with New-Onset Hypertension in General Adults: A Nationwide Prospective Cohort Study
Creating more space for tomatoes in our plates may help protect us from becoming hypertensive.
This study seeks to clarify if there is a connection between dietary intake of tomatoes and the propensity of developing hypertension. Researchers engaged a total of 11,460 Chinese men and women without a history of hypertension whose diets and blood pressure were monitored over an 18-year period.
Researchers discovered that regular consumers of tomatoes constitute a low proportion of the 4,015 participants who received a diagnosis of hypertension during the course of the study. This study provides additional evidence supporting frequent ingestion of tomatoes as part of a dietary approach to prevent hypertension.
