Fruit and vegetable consumption and risk of the metabolic syndrome: a meta-analysis.
Metabolic syndrome is less likely to occur in individuals adhering to a high fruits and vegetable diet.
This meta-analysis examined the role habitual consumption of fruits and vegetables play in the prevention of metabolic syndrome. Researchers reviewed data and evidence obtained from 9 studies that investigated the link between the intake of fruits and vegetables and metabolic syndrome risk.
Data analysis revealed that frequent consumers of fruits and vegetables were less prone to suffer from metabolic syndrome than individuals who rarely indulged in fruits and vegetables. The authors of this study suggested that people should consume more fruits and vegetables in order to reduce their risk of developing metabolic syndrome.
