Consumption of nuts and legumes and risk of stroke: a meta-analysis of prospective cohort studies.

Generous intake of nuts may offer individuals powerful protection against stroke.

This study investigated the relationship between the regular dietary ingestion of nuts and legumes and the occurrence of stroke by meta-analysis. Eight prospective studies that examined 468,887 subjects and 10,493 cases of stroke were included in this meta-analysis. Unlike legumes that had no effect on stroke risk, researchers observed that high dietary intake of nuts decreased the odds of developing stroke. The findings of this study indicate that habitual consumers of nuts are less prone to suffer from stroke.
