Cannabis use and earlier onset of psychosis: a systematic meta-analysis.
Cannabis users may have a high tendency to develop psychotic illness at a younger age.
This meta-analysis focused on investigating the connection between cannabis consumption and the age of development of psychosis. Researchers pooled data extracted from 83 studies.
Data analysis revealed that cannabis users experienced their first episode of psychosis 2.70 years much earlier than non-users of this psychoactive substance." The results of meta-analysis provide evidence for a relationship between cannabis use and earlier onset of psychotic illness, and they support the hypothesis that cannabis use plays a causal role in the development of psychosis in some patients," the authors concluded.
