Cannabis and schizophrenia: a longitudinal study of cases treated in Stockholm County.
Cannabis use may elevate the likelihood of schizophrenia occurring in individuals.
This study examined the theory that cannabis use can precipitate the onset of schizophrenia. Researchers studied the cannabis intake levels of 229 patients from Sweden diagnosed with schizophrenia.
The team of investigators found a high prevalence of schizophrenia among heavy users of cannabis. The results of this study support the theory that cannabis use may induce the development of schizophrenia.
