Cigarette smoking and stroke in a cohort of U.S. male physicians.
Cigarette smoking may predispose a man to a stroke attack.
This study evaluated the impact of cigarette smoking on the risk of stroke in men. Researchers studied data on the smoking history and incidence rate of stroke in 22,071 US male doctors aged 40 to 84 years recruited from the Physician's Health Study.
Researchers discovered that cigarette smoking boosted a man's chances of experiencing an incidence of stroke. This large-scale study suggests that cigarette smoking may make a stroke attack more likely to occur in a man.
