Vegetable and fruit intake and stroke mortality in the Hiroshima/Nagasaki Life Span Study.

​Generous consumption of fruits and vegetables may tilt the odds of avoiding death due to stroke in favor of individuals.

​This study assessed how diets high in fruits and vegetables affect the risk of dying from stroke. Researchers surveyed more than 40,000 Japanese men and women for 18 years. During the course of the study, a total of 1,926 stroke deaths were recorded.

Researchers noted that the risk of suffering from death due to stroke decreased with high intake of fruits and vegetables. According to this study, daily intake of fruits and green-yellow vegetables was can cut down the risk of stroke mortality by 26% in men and women. The results of this study show that regular ingestion of fruits and vegetables may protect individuals from stroke attack and death.
