Association of dietary fiber intake with hyperuricemia in U.S. adults

Adequate dietary ingestion of fiber may help guard against the onset of hyperuricemia in men and women.

This study examined how a high fiber diet affects an individual's risk of having hyperuricemia. Researchers matched dietary fiber intake levels with the occurrence of hyperuricemia in a study group comprising of more than 12,000 US men and women.

Researchers noted that higher intake of fiber-containing foods lowered an individual's probability of suffering from hyperuricemia. This study support the hypothesis that greater adherence to a high fiber diet may be beneficial for the prevention of hyperuricemia in men and women.
