Association of sugar intake from different sources with incident dementia in the prospective cohort of UK Biobank participants

Increased intake of sugary beverages may accelerate the onset of dementia in men and women.

This study investigated the influence of sugary-beverage consuming habits on dementia risk. A total of 1,498 out of the 186,622 study participants developed dementia over a 10-year period.

Researchers observed that lovers of sugared beverages constituted a large percentage of the number of participants diagnosed with dementia. This study pointed out that habitual drinking of sugary beverages may increase an individual's susceptibility to dementia.
