Association between dietary fiber intake and atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease risk in adults: a cross-sectional study of 14,947 population based on the National Health and Nutrition Examination Surveys

Diets that favor the ingestion of fiber-rich foods may help thwart the development of cardiovascular diseases in men and women.

This study was carried out to confirm the protective effect of high fiber diet against cardiovascular diseases. With the aid of validated food frequency questionnaires, researchers collated and examined data on the dietary habits of 14,947 men and women. The diagnosis rate of cardiovascular diseases in the study population was obtained from hospital records. 

Researchers noticed a decline in the incidence of atherosclerotic cardiovascular diseases among participants at the top of the dietary fiber consumption ladder. This study emphasized the important role high fiber diet play in the prevention of cardiovascular diseases.
