Dietary flavonoids intake and the risk of coronary heart disease: a dose-response meta-analysis of 15 prospective studies.

Habitual consumption of flavonoid-rich foods may confer individuals with significant protection against coronary heart disease.

This study reviewed scientific publications that analyze the connection between the ingestion of flavonoid-rich foods and the odds of developing coronary heart disease (CHD). Dietary and clinical data extracted from a total of 15 prospective studies were evaluated for this study.

Data analysis revealed that increase in the frequency of consumption of flavonoid-containing foods decrease the likelihood of developing coronary heart disease. This study strengthens the body of evidence that supports the protective effect of dietary flavonoids on coronary heart disease.
