Long-term intake of dietary fiber and decreased risk of coronary heart disease among women.
Long-term consumption of a high-fiber diet may be beneficial in the prevention of coronary heart disease in women.
This research work studied the effect of habitual consumption of a high-fiber diet on the likelihood of developing coronary heart disease (CHD) in women. A group of scientists from Sweden assessed the dietary patterns of more than half a million women aged 37 to 64 years and tracked the incidence of coronary heart disease among the study cohort.
The research team observed that women who ate the highest amounts of fiber-rich foods had lesser chances of developing coronary heart disease than their counterparts who consumed the least amount of dietary fiber. Evidence from this study supports the inclusion of dietary fiber in a heart-healthy diet.
